McLeod Scholarship appeal

Dear Friends,
Our family launched the Kyle Whitham McLeod Scholarship Fund a few months after his untimely death. We wanted to transform the worst moment of our lives into something that Kyle would be proud of. His years as a Latin American History major at San Francisco State instilled in Kyle a profound concern for fellow students forced to leave school because of tuition increases. Even a modest scholarship can forestall postponing — or ending — the pursuit of a degree. The History Department selects one or two candidates completing their junior year who show commitment to their education and concern for their community. Their stories are invariably inspiring:
Alonso Alvarez – Class of 2011
"Receiving the scholarship increased my self-esteem and confidence, which allowed me to silence the voice of doubt and self-imposed limitations that was often lurking in my head."
Terra Uppstad – Class of 2009
"Meeting Kyle's parents and hearing Kyle's story from them, I know how he wanted to help people; I too have spent my life helping children."
Angelie Lopez – Class of 2014
"The scholarship provided me — a first generation, low income student of color — with financial relief. Meeting Kyle’s family itself was an honor."
Since 2007, the Fund’s endowment has grown thanks to the generosity of friends and family. Our goal is to double the existing fund and reach $100,000, which will allow the History Department to increase the number of scholarships and amount of the awards. We are reaching out to alumni, friends, and faculty of the History Department as well as those who have donated in the past.

Please help the History Department by making a donation to the Kyle Whitham McLeod Memorial Scholarship. We are certain that Kyle would be proud of what has been and continues to be accomplished in his name.
With Thanks and Appreciation,
Cynthia Whitham, Miranda McLeod, Gearey McLeod
